{Special Accomplishments. Amazing Young Man} Eagle Scout Court of Honor

As parents we wish the best for our children.  We guide them, we nurture them, we feed them with information and we hope that they have drive to succeed.

This family, the Oyer's, have done just that and their son Brandon has accomplished many things. He has a life purpose, ambition, pride and devotion. This will serve as one of his proudest moments in life - Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

A mother and father watched on, proud of their son. He has accomplished things that few boys do at his young age.  I watched during this ceremony, proud too of a young man who has truly prepared himself for all situations!  His accomplishments and dedication were celebrated with unity from his friends and family.  Other young men looked on with a great degree of excitement and encouragement, especially his younger brother. It was my pleasure to watch this amazing moment, Brandon congratulations!

I am blessed to be invited into peoples lives ... I am thankful to see these fantastic and special moments.  Thank you again Oyer family!

Winner.Winner.Winner {Summer Photo Contest}

What can I say about this family?  Fun ... YES!  Gorgeous ... OF COURSE!  Winners ... Well YEAH!

I met Emma this past summer when she entered into our "Win A Free Photo Session" contest!  With weeks of going from 1st to 2nd and back again, the day came for me to count the votes.  It was a close race between two beautiful young woman!  It was my pleasure to announce to Emma that her family was going to get a FREE session!  Well let me tell you, they worked this photo session like nobody's business.  I expected about 20 edited photos out of this hour session and I am STILL editing photos because they all came out so great! During the session you could feel the LOVE they had for one another!  Mom and dad seemed like they are were newlyweds!  They kissed and held hands in between shots, I even had to tell them to save some for my camera :) ... they were just fantastic!!! I.LOVE.MY.JOB!!!

Thank you fans for helping this family capture memories forever!

{This contest was so close I offered the runner up a gift certificate of $150 off a family session because honestly they both worked so hard!}

{Apples.Pumpkins.Mini Sessions 1.0}

I am always falling in love with my clients.  Taking their photos is so much fun.  These little girls made it an experience.  Clearly we have a couple models in the making.  Posing a family is always enjoyable when the little ones know how the "find the light" ... AMAZING!

What investment is right for you? {A blog for my photographer friends}

Running graphic departments in the past has always yielded this question.  What investment is right for {insert company name}?  Certainly it depends on the type of work/advertising you are doing.  Maybe you need Photoshop {a whopping $600} or a new lens {holy bananas another $1500} maybe a hot new camera {ok I'm scaring myself}!  But ALWAYS does this question present itself!

Today I will talk about the photography business {surprise surprise} and the next investment.  Do you take the leap and buy a cool lens that's been on your radar for a long time OR just another camera body {boring}?  The fun choice would be the great lens, wow they can be exciting!  I write this blog as therapy to my own dilemma!  I love lenses, even think I may have a serious need for intervention, but do I need one?  No!  An artist can take a photo with any camera, any lens, any brand because it isn't the materials you use it's the eye behind the camera that invokes feelings to its audience.

Here in lies the problem: A photographer with many amazing lenses and only one camera body.{eeekkk}

At any moment in a photo shoot, a beautiful wedding or an event that camera can fail.  What do you do then?   Pull out your iPhone, I think not!  You have made a promise to your client to capture that moment forever.  What if your camera is in the shop? Mine is not immune to a hiccup ... no camera is! That can take days if not weeks to get back. We don't have the ability to stay down that long, business is business.

I have recently decided to take the leap and purchase a second camera body.  Maybe partly because I hate to constantly be switching lenses during a photo session but REALLY it is to ensure my client always has their special moment covered.  Yes, it wasn't an exciting decision.  It did not yield the ever wonderful shopping buzz one gets when they open a box containing a beautiful 24-70 2.8, BUT my company and my clients are what is important.

Now that isn't to say I did not go on a lens frenzy in the past. I am the proud owner of quite a few top of the line pieces BUT I will tell you that I almost always use just one and maybe, now and again, switch to a wide angle for a group shot. But that's it, my pretty investments sit ... lonely ... in a camera bag ... killing my back from the weight ...

What are your thoughts on this?

Unicorns. Two Headed Snakes. Pink Lollipops {Michigan Family Photography}

Family sessions are always a great experience ... this one was a hoot!! Kacie wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up ... so she can "take care of sick unicorns".  That is the BEST things I have ever heard!!!  There are many things you should experience in your life, she recommended I go about seeing a two headed snake, and I "really must do this soon before they become extinct".  Really?!  Could she be more cute?

I brought my arsenal of bribery tools, this time lollipops and balloons.  Everything is right with the world when you have these in tow ... so I thought :)  Except, I broke the cardinal rule and got two different colored lollipops, not thinking of how everyone wants the PINK one :) Thankfully we came to some compromises and these amazing gals found it in their hearts to forgive me. This family made my job easy. Everyone played, everyone was comfortable, everyone was simply beautiful! Thank you again Sieradski family, you gave me a great memory and allowed me to be artistic.

Happily.Ever.After {Michigan Family Photography}

Anyone can say that this is an easy one!  Look at them - RICH with spirit and huge appetites for laughter.  You wouldn't know it but dad was unaware that a photo session should last longer than 5 minutes :) He was a trooper though!  I have the pleasure of knowing this family personally and I will tell you that their beauty extends much deeper than the exterior.  They are just incredible!  I am thankful I was able to do this session with them, they forever hold my heart!
